The excellence of Huronia Centurion Veronica 20J EX-97 has been honoured numerous times with a variety of awards. She was Supreme Champion of World Dairy Expo in 2006, complementing three consecutive Grand Championships at Madison. She was also previously named the Global Cow of the Year by Dairy Breeds International magazine and her progeny are excelling around the world. Now, Veronia has one more honour to add to the trophy case: Canadian Cow of the Year in 2011.

Veronica was nominated by her breeders, Fred and Ruth Armstrong of Huronia Jerseys, Auburn, Ontario and Murray and Pat Mellow Kenkare Jerseys, Bolton, Ontario. Veronica is owned by Arethusa Farms LLC of Litchfield, Connecticut.

Voting was completed in mid-September with members of Jersey Canada eligible to submit one vote per membership. All six of the nominated cows received their share of votes but Veronica came out on top with 43% of votes cast. Her closest challenger was fellow 97 point cow, Vandenberg Amedeo Gorgeous, with 24% of the vote.

Congratulations to all who have had a hand in making Veronica into the Canadian Cow of the Year for 2011, a most worthy recipient in the first year of this award program. Congratulations as well to the breeders and owners of the other five nominated cows: Vandenberg Amedeo Gorgeous, RJF Remake Belle, Lapokita Fusion Nosy, Valleystream Remake Honey and Piedmont Declo Belle. An award will be presented to Arethusa Farms during the National Show at the Royal Winter Fair in November.
